Hey guys,
I just recently bought an AKG Perceptions 220 LD Condensor mic to record acoustic guitar. First of all to get things straight, I'm VERY new to recording. I started recording just electric guitar only about 5-6 months ago. I'm starting to get the hang of recording electric guitar, not really though, but I know enough to get a pretty good sound (I'm only 13 haha). Back to the topic though, I've been trying to make a cover of the song "Forget it" by Breaking Benjamin. I'm recording the lead with an electric guitar which sounds fine, but I'm recording the rhythm with an acoustic.... this is my problem. I just need sound tips on recording acoustic guitar, EQ, placement, effects, anything you can possibly think of.
Thanks, Alex

Hey man! Nice to see another guy starting off young.
Well, this is a very touchy subject as people have different ways of doing things. Seeing as you have one condenser, it will be quite simple to get a natural sound.
In terms of positioning, I personally like having the microphone near the bridge but a bit off axis. This gives the body of the guitar more, which I really like. Another thing you can do is mic around the 12th fret, this will give a brighter sound. You usually do this position with pencil condensers though. One thing to remember is NEVER mic straight at the sound hole, this is a terrible sound and gives terrible bass.
For EQ, I like going bright for acoustic guitars (depending on genre of course). I would add a couple dB's at about 5k+ range. I also like scooping out the bass, because I do not like bassy guitars. Then you can add a couple around the mids. I never really cut for mids or highs. One thing you must remember is, if you like the sound of your guitar going in, barely EQ it at all. Too much EQ ruins an instrument.
Hope this helps you out!
